Business For Good San Diego

Our Story

Business For Good San Diego is a nonprofit on a mission to unite local business owners to drive policy that improves our community.

We believe local businesses are ideally suited to weigh in on our local decision-making to make sure quality of life is increased for all San Diegans – not just a select few.

After all, if every elected official gets into office at least partly due to some version of their “support local business” speech, then let’s make them do it. Let’s hold them accountable to a new, accurate definition of what it means to be “pro-business.”

Business For Good is, in a nutshell, run by you: the owners and operators of San Diego’s favorite brands. Whether you’re the newest solopreneur on the block or the curator of a long-standing establishment, it doesn’t matter. In our close-knit family, unicorns and zebras roam freely to shape an entrepreneurial ecosystem that lifts all businesses across all neighborhoods.

Together, we champion a vision where local businesses have rightful power and influence to strengthen our communities and make life better for all of us. We’re not fans of just moving wealth up the power structure that’s maintained by a small, closed network of well-connected men. At Business For Good, yours is the new face of San Diego business.

Why We Started Business for Good

We founded Business For Good to engage local business owners directly on the policy issues they care about. They have a much better finger on the pulse of what matters to most San Diegans than industry-wide giants, and they need to be heard.

You can imagine we were pretty discouraged to find out that even though locally-owned businesses represent more than 97% of San Diego businesses, they were absent at almost every decision-making table.

So, our approach was simple.

We asked them if they had seen improvements in the things they care about – such as the way they get around town, their energy bills, or their cost of living. And if not – which was overwhelmingly the case – we’d find the policy-making table where this issue gets addressed and create a seat there for them.
