Immigration

New Americans drive economic prosperity

Immigrants give more than they take. It’s that simple. With this shared understanding, we can craft policies recognizing the importance of immigrants in our local economies. Working together to create an inclusive economy – one that gives all business owners equal access to resources, support, and opportunities – is the way forward.

Citizenship Drive Workshops

Nearly 65,000 immigrant entrepreneurs in San Diego County want to become U.S. citizens but lack the resources to cover the administrative and legal costs to do so. Business For Good and the Employee Rights Center are co-hosting two Citizenship Drive Workshops in 2024 designed to bring them one step closer to realizing their dream.

All workshop attendees were able to:

  • Get an assessment and review of their unique citizenship situation
  • Speak with a legal reviewer to ask important questions

We’re proud of the work we accomplished and look forward to hosting more events like this in the future.

Priority Areas
  • Supporting the implementation of the Welcoming San Diego strategic plan
  • Researching the consequences of border-tightening policies on our local economy
  • Creating a county-wide naturalization and legal defense support fund
  • Tracking the impact of I-9 workplace audits on targeted regional industries
  • Launching loan & financing options that provide capital for immigrant entrepreneurs

The economic contribution of immigrants across San Diego County is undeniable.
